History
Houston Texas was founded in 1836 by J.K. & A.C. Allen. It was named after General Sam Houston who was responsible for winning Texas’s independence from Mexico. In 1837 Texas became The Republic of Texas and incorporated. Texas became the 28th State in 1846. It is located on Galveston Bay. The average temperature in Houston is 70F. Houston has many nicknames, Bayou City, City of Syrup, Space City, Humidity City, and The Big Heart.
