Overview

The ultimate barrier gate.

The BGS-6xx high-volume automatic barrier gate offers a servo motor and stainless steel housing — durable and rust-resistant in Canadian climates and tropical salt-water environments. Multiple inputs and outputs, configurable open/close speeds, and auto-reverse on obstruction. Red/green illuminated panels provide stop/go guidance to drivers. The optional breakaway release arm minimizes damage to the motor and gate when a vehicle drives into the arm. Lightweight aluminum arms install with no special tools. Slim profile fits narrow lanes — built for high-volume applications.

Gate Systems

Automatic Barrier Gate Systems

An automatic barrier gate system pairs the gate with a trigger and the software that decides when the arm opens. The trigger is a ticket dispenser, an access control reader, an LPR camera, a pay station or an intercom; CloudEASE logs every open and ties it to revenue. The same BGS-6xx gate runs every configuration below.

Entry lane

A transient parker presses a button on the Entry BOXX ticket machine or is recognized by an LPR camera; monthly parkers present a credential at an access control pedestal. A valid trigger raises the arm, and loop detectors close it behind the vehicle.

Exit lane

Parking gate systems charge for the time spent in the facility. After a printed or digital ticket at entry, the exit lane system collects payment in lane: the unattended Exit BOXX takes a scanner, PCI-compliant encrypted card reader, intercom, access control reader and receipt printer, and can add EMV, a bill acceptor and a coin acceptor. Credential holders use dedicated express lanes so monthly parkers and employees never queue behind payment.

Attended and unattended revenue control

For busy sites, credit card payment in the exit lane is the fastest option for transient parkers; smaller sites add cash alongside cards to avoid walk-up pay stations. The Cashier BOXX lets an attendant rate tickets, apply discounts and scan paper or sticker validations, and many gate systems run both modes in the same lane, staffing the cashier only at peak times.

  • Exit BOXX — credit and/or cash (no change given), the standard unattended exit terminal
  • Big Pay BOXX — credit and cash with full change dispensing
  • Cashier BOXX (POS) — attended station with scanner, card reader, printer and message center
  • Intercoms — call-for-assistance built into the lane for remote operator support
  • Access control readers — RFID, proximity, Bluetooth and mobile credentials for monthly parker bypass
  • BGS-6xx barrier gate — red/green safety illumination, integrated with every lane device above
Safety Features

Auto-reverse, illuminated panels, audible alarm.

Parking BOXX gates auto-rebound when the arm contacts a solid object — a required safety feature you can demonstrate by catching the arm in your hand. Visibility and warning systems prevent contact in the first place.

Auto-Reverse on Obstruction

Gates auto-rebound the moment the arm contacts a solid object. A required safety feature on every Parking BOXX barrier gate — protects vehicles, pedestrians, and the gate itself.

Auto-rebound: the arm reverses on contact

Red/Green Illuminated Panels

Top-mounted illuminated panels stay red until the arm is fully open, then flip green to signal go. Optional illuminated arms add visibility at night — visible up to 500 ft.

Red/green lights on the gate cabinet

Audible Closing Alarm

Audible alarm sounds when the arm is about to close, alerting anyone standing nearby. Combined with on-arm signage, it warns pedestrians who cross gate lanes.

3M Reflective Arm

Powder-coated white aluminum with 3M red retroreflective strips on both sides. Engineered internal structure resists heavy winds even on the 18-ft arm. Visibility approaches 90° at night.

Pedestrian Detection Sensor

Optional sensor prevents the arm from closing on a person crossing the lane. Use selectively — pedestrians can also block sensors to let multiple vehicles pass without paying.

Security Camera Mount

Single or dual camera mounts with optional NVR for incident review. Reduces vandalism and discourages drivers who try to "game" the system.

Engineered Break Points

Break in the right way.

Despite best efforts, some drivers will hit a barrier gate arm. Parking BOXX engineered two break points so the cheap parts fail first — protecting the motor and shaft.

Break Point #1 — Breakaway Bolt

Low-speed impact protection

The breakaway bolt lets the arm hinge outward on low-speed impact instead of snapping. Replace one inexpensive securing bolt and the gate is operational again in minutes — no full arm replacement.

For high-speed impacts the aluminum arm may shear off, but if you're handy you can usually trim the edges, redrill, and reuse 95% of the arm.

Breakaway bolt: the arm swings free on forward impact
Break Point #2 — Sacrificial Component

Manual force-open protection

Some drivers try to force the arm open by hand to skip payment — common on remote exit lanes. Without a designed break point, this damages the motor or shaft and turns into an expensive repair.

Parking BOXX includes a sacrificial component (under $10) that breaks first and absorbs the force. Field-replaceable in minutes — no service truck required.

Shear pin: breaks before the motor shaft
A real vehicle impact: at a low speed impact, vehicle contact causes the arm to break. But with a break away bolt, the arm gives way and the gate arm may be easily restored to operational status.
Credentials & Revenue

Restrict who enters. Control how they pay.

Whether you're securing access or collecting revenue, the barrier gate arm is the physical control point.

Authorized-only access

Pair the gate with RFID readers, AVI/AVR vehicle hangtags, or LPR cameras through Parking BOXX parking access control systems. Only credentialed vehicles get through. Used by corporate campuses, residential buildings, secure facilities, and monthly-permit lots.

Loop detectors above the gate ensure only vehicles trigger the arm — pedestrians can't walk up and game the lane.

Revenue-collection access

Pair the gate with ticket dispensers, pay stations, or LPR billing. Drivers pay to exit; the gate enforces payment. Used by transient-parking garages, hospitals, airports, hotels, and event venues.

Every transaction logs to CloudEASE — Parking BOXX's cloud management platform — for revenue audit, occupancy reporting, and remote operator control.

Manual Operation & Backup

Keep the gate running when power doesn't.

For lower-volume sites, remote control or push-button stations replace fully automatic operation. For higher-volume sites, battery backup keeps you running through outages.

Option 01

Remote Control

Open, close, or stop the arm from a key fob. Right-sized for low-volume facilities where a staff member is on-site to manage entries and exits.

Option 02

Push-Button Station

Wall- or pedestal-mounted button operates the gate manually. Common at staffed facilities — security desks, valet stands, attended booths.

Option 03

Battery Backup & Manual Release

Optional UPS keeps the gate operational during power loss. Manual release lets staff raise the arm by hand if power is out longer than the battery lasts.

Option 04

Key Switch — Hold Open / Hold Closed

For events, end-of-day, or single-lane reversal (entry in the morning, exit in the afternoon). Two gates back-to-back handle the directional change without rewiring.

Option 05

Loop-Free Operation

Where loops aren't practical, photo-eye sensors can replace in-pavement loops for vehicle detection — useful for temporary installations or surfaces that can't be cut.

Option 06

CloudEASE Remote Control

Open, close, or hold any gate from any browser. Pair with security camera footage for verified remote assist when a driver needs help.

Folding & Articulating Arms

Built for low-clearance garages.

If you build for 6'8" clearance, the last thing you want is a barrier gate arm cutting into your usable height when raised. Folding and articulating arms solve it.

How articulation works

The arm folds at a fulcrum point as it rises, staying parallel to the ceiling instead of swinging vertically into the rafters. Vehicles get the full clearance the garage was designed for.

Standard folding arms are 12 ft with adjustable height. Custom lengths available for non-standard lanes.

  • Maximizes clearance on the longest possible arm
  • Smooth fold-and-raise cycle — no jerk, no over-travel
  • Same auto-reverse, breakaway, and CloudEASE integration as the standard arm

When to spec one

Indoor garages with low ceilings, parkades with structural beams above the gate, mixed-use buildings, and any facility where headroom matters more than arm length.

For very tight installations, see the dedicated articulating barrier gate page.

Commercial Lots

Parking Lot Gates for Commercial Lots

Parking lot gates regulate vehicle flow and protect revenue at entry and exit lanes: the arm opens only after a required action — a ticket issued, a credential validated or a payment confirmed. Integrated with ticket machines, access control readers and CloudEASE, they keep traffic moving while every exit is accounted for. Systems start at $2,449 — request a quote for a fixed-price proposal.

Common ways to open a parking gate

  • Ticket machine — press a button, the ticket prints, the driver takes it and the arm opens
  • Access control — a monthly parker presents an authorized credential; if valid for the time, date and area, the arm opens
  • Payment or validation — once payment is made or a validated ticket is presented, the arm opens
  • Call for assistance — the driver presses the intercom; the operator opens the gate from a phone
  • Remote control — remotes for snow plow, delivery and other recurring drivers
  • Free in/out — loop-triggered gate for flat-rate or access-control-only lots with a free exit lane
  • Emergency vehicle siren — automatic open for emergency sirens; contact us for configuration options

Types of parking lot gates

Straight-arm gates are standard for most lots; articulating or folding-arm gates handle low overhead clearance. Standard parking lot gate arms span up to 14 feet, extended-arm models reach 18 feet for wide commercial driveways, and beyond 18 feet paired opposing gates cover the span while keeping fast opening speeds.

Parking lot gates are rated for operation from -40°F to +158°F (-40°C to +70°C), with optional heater kits for arctic conditions. Cabinet heaters prevent condensation and keep motors, controls and loops working through freeze-thaw cycles.

Installation

Installation positions the gate cabinet and anchors it to the concrete, saw-cuts vehicle detection loops into the pavement, runs power and communication cables to the control system, then mounts, calibrates and tests the arm for opening speed, safety features and integration with access control or ticketing. Parking BOXX designs, manufactures and installs parking lot gates across the United States and Canada through a national network of certified installers.
