The City of Portland is found in Oregon State in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Long before settlers came to the area; it was inhabited by the North American Native tribe, the Chinook. In 1850 the population of Portland was 800. Today it is just over 4 million. Lovejoy (from Boston, Massachusetts) and Pettygrove (from Portland, Maine) both wanted to name the area after their respective home towns. They came to an agreement by the flip of a coin and Pettygrove won. Thus the town was named Portland, Oregon. The City was incorporated 165 years ago on February 8th, 1851. Oregon along with Alaska, Delaware, Montana and New Hampshire has no State sales tax. So come and shop in Portland. Portland has three Airports, Portland International Airport, Portland-Troutdale Airport and Portland-Hillsboro Airport.
