Baltimore was established as a town in 1729 then incorporated in 1796. It is located in the State of Maryland, in the northeast part of the United States. It is just 38 miles northeast of the Capitol named after Cecilius Calver, 2nd Lord Baltimore and is the biggest city in Maryland. Baltimore has a population just shy of 622,500. Baltimore is well known for its Berger Cookies, pit beef and crab cakes; which consist of blue crab, egg, mayo, cracker crumbs, mustard and Old Bay seafood seasoning. The seasoning mix includes mustard, paprika, celery salt, bay leaf, black pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, mace, cloves, allspice, nutmeg, cardamom, and ginger. The annual high is 66°F and the low is 51°F with the average temperature being 59°F. Babe Ruth, Michael Phelps, Johnny Unitas and Cal Ripken Jr. are some of the famous athletes to come out of Baltimore.
