History
Cincinnati was founded in 1788 and is located in the county of Hamilton, in the State of Ohio in the Midwest part of the U.S.A. The original name of the settlement (1789) was Fort Washington, after George Washington. It was then changed to Losantiville and finally renamed for the last time in 1790 to Cincinnati by Arthur St. Clair. The town’s name is recognition of the Roman citizen soldier Cincinnatus. Hamilton County is named after Alexander Hamilton. Cincinnati–Middletown–Wilmington (CSA) combined statistical area is the largest city in Ohio with a population of 2.2 million residents. Cincinnati Airport opened in 1947 and is in Northern Kentucky. Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, Cincinnati Municipal Lunken Airport. Mount Adams, Mount Auburn, Walnut Hills, Fairmount, Fairview Heights, Clifton Heights and Mt. Harrison make up the famous 7 Hills of Cincinnati. Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon is from Cincinnati. Jerry Springer was once Mayor and it is the birthplace of Steven Spielberg. Five US presidents herald from Cincinnati, Benjamin Harrison, Rutherford B. Hayes, Ulysses S. Grant, William Henry Harrison and William Howard Taft. Cincinnati is headquarters to many companies such as the Kroger supermarket chain, Bicycle Playing cards and Proctor and Gamble, just to name a few.
