Nashville is located on the Cumberland River in Davidson County in the north central part of the state of Tennessee in the southeast part of the U.S.A. The town was founded in 1779 by James Robertson, John Donelson and Overmountain Men. They settled near Fort Nashborough and named the town after Revolutionary War hero, Francis Nash. The town was incorporated in 1806 and became the state capital in 1843. Nashville is famous for its legendary country music. The Grand Ole Opry House, home to the Grand Ole Opry. Honky-tonks abound. Legendary country music stars herald from this area, either home grown or relocated from other parts of the country. The population of Nashville is 678,889 with the Nashville metropolitan statistical area just under 1,880,000. The Nashville metro area is comprised of Nashville, Davidson, Columbia and Murfreesboro.
