History

NY Bay was discovered in 1524 by Giovanni da Verrazano. In 1609 Henry Hudson sailed the river now aptly named after him. Samuel de Champlain claimed northern New York for France that same year. New York City served as the capital of the U.S. from 1785 – 1790. Today the population is 8,000,000+.
