Newark is found in Essex County and is the largest city in the State of New Jersey. It is located on the northeast coast of the United States. Newark was founded in 1666. The city was incorporated in 1836 with a population of 19,732 and in 2016 celebrating 180 years with a population just shy of 9 million residents. Newark acquired the nickname Brick City on account of the numerous high-rise structures made of brick and stone. A few other well-known nicknames are Gateway City and Renaissance Newark.
