Vancouver is on the west coast of Canada in British Columbia. Gastown the original settlement grew and was incorporated as the town site of Granville in 1870. With news of the arriving Canadian Pacific Railway in 1884 it was incorporated and renamed Vancouver in 1886. The City was named after the explorer Captain George Vancouver. The first known Europeans to set foot were Simon Fraser & his crew. The population of Vancouver is 610,000 with the Greater Vancouver Area just over 2.5million. Vancouver hosted Expo `86 & the 2010 Winter Olympics. Vancouver is a very diverse City. The First Nations, Japanese, Chinese, Indian and Italian cultures have collectively shaped Vancouver. Local seafood includes Dungeness crab, prawns, mussels, wild salmon and oysters. Eateries include Izakayas-Japanese pubs, food trucks, bistros and gastropubs.
